We will never go back here! We recently had breakfast Mr. It was the poorest breakfast and most expensive we had in our whole Melbourne CBD visit.
We went there thinking that by being part of Crown the standard would have to be at a high level. We were wrong Never again.. Good food. Good service.
Good facilities. Good value options. Table spacing and elbow room good. Deserves the 5. Wait staff were friendly, but seems like the kitchen staff needs some more service training.
It's nice to have Very lacking in asian cuisine, and congee was served on a plate under the heat light on the counter instead of in a soup pot hence very gooey and not very hot.
Decent fruits and pastry sections. Hot dishes and cold cut sections could use a few more items like salad green or tomatoes.
Annual staff Christmas party. Fantastic food and Atmosphere. We arrived early and sat at the bar to indulge in a drink or more.
Fantastic Service and talent behind the bar. Will be back. Fabulous choices on the buffet. Lots of options for kids as well as grown ups.
Great decor. A starter of roasted scallops on a bed of cauliflower puree, with toasted wild rice, and liquoricey, caramelised kelp was superb.
More unusual, but also very good, was a Japanese-influenced starter of two generous fillets of sushi-grade yellow fin tuna, charred on one side, raw on the other, with a wonderfully punchy aged soy marinade, and served with enoki mushrooms, sliced radishes, diced vegetables and micro herbs.
A main of slow-cooked Marlborough King salmon fillet was brilliant - the fish silky, moist and deep pink in colour, with hints of citrus, and served with a creamy bed of crab and sweet corn.
I loved a side dish of autumn greens - a robust, beautifully bitter medley of kale, warrigal greens, spinach and sorrel.
A special of delicately flavoured braised veal shin on pearl barley the consistency of a lush, brothy risotto also hit the mark.
The mains on our second visit weren't quite as remarkable - a "signature" dish of saltbush lamb belly, on a bed of peas and mint, was good, but not outstanding.
The "steamed Suzuki mulloway" dish, covered with so much lemongrass and vermouth-infused foam it looked as though it had washed up from the sea, was served with Spring Bay mussels, seaweed and caviar.
It was full of briny freshness but needed more variation in flavours. Post-dinner on our first visit, we were whisked over to ''Mrs Hive's'' dessert bar, which is styled as an "olde worlde" lolly shop.
Here, sous chefs whip up desserts at breakneck speed. My ''pain perdu'' is assembled before me like a piece of Ikea furniture: a syrupy, dark circle of brioche plopped on a plate, topped with apple puree, a sprinkle of diced apples, and an intense scoop of blackcurrant ice-cream and vanilla ice-cream.
It's enjoyable but I preferred the Friday night experience when dessert was brought to our table and I could imagine the chef had slaved for hours over the pizza-sized apple tart tatin for two, served with brandy cream, vanilla ice-cream, and a jug of warm apple caramel sauce.
Lawson is a talented chef he has cooked for the Sultan of Oman and the Beckhams and Mr Hive is a refined space.
It just needs to relax the pace. So i took orange blossom mocktail which was really a fresh tangy drink and great for summers when you want something soothing.
The other two drinks i tried was a virgin mojito and apple clove mocktail from which i liked mojito. The meal i tried was Thai style tofu which was a lightly spiced tofu starter having a soft texture and very balanced taste and i would say a must try.
It is something like a grilled kebabs made of tofu served with a sweet chilli dip. The next two starters were :Beer batter amritsari fish and a veg burger.
The burger was like any other burger while the patty had kidney beans in it which i am not really fond of. You can give it a try. Then the treat was completed with some desserts in which i tried aple pie, carrot cake and chocolate orange cake.
Carrot cake was good but i liked chocolate orange cake the most. Orange is always best complemented with chocolate and it is a must try.
